Scientific Background | Phytosphingosine is a naturally occurring component found in yeast, plants and animals. In yeast, it is involved in mediating the heat stress response. Phytosphingosine has been found to be pro-apoptotic in certain cancer cell lines. It is thought to activate the p38 MAPK pathway, followed by release of cytochrome c and activation of caspase 3, ultimately leading to programed cell death. |
