This Day in Science Nov. 24, 1859 – Origin of Species Published
On November 24th, 1859 On the Origin of Species was published by Charles Darwin. The full title of the book was On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.
It is considered by most scientists to be the foundation for the theory of evolution. Based on the evidence Darwin found during his Voyage on the Beagle from 1831-1836, the book presented the idea that all life arose through a series of branches from a common ancestor.
