Scientific Background | Imiquimod activates the toll-like receptor7 /8 to secrete cytokines (primarily interferon-α (IFN-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)). It also has been shown to act as an adoside A1 and A2A receptor antagonist. It is clinically useful in the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma. |
