Astrocyte Markers
Astrocytes are a type of macroglial cell that outnumber neurons in the central nervous system. Astrocytes are star shaped cells, with processes extending from the cell body radially, however their morphology can vary.
Astrocytes function to:
- Provide structural support to neurons
- Supply nutrients such as lactate and glucose
- Synapse support, including transmitter uptake and release, and intake of potassium
- Clean-up debris through phagocytosis
Astrocytes are easily identified by immunolabelling of glial fibrillary acid protein (GFAP) in reactive cells that are responding to damaged tissue.
We are dedicated to providing relevant astrocyte markers to aid in neuroscience research, including monoclonal antibodies, polyclonal antibodies, and antibody conjugates.
