Transient Receptor Potential Channels (TRP)

Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) channels are transmembrane protein channels that non-selectively conduct cations across the cell membrane. TRP channels are responsible for numerous sensations including hot, cold, pain, pressure, vision, and taste.

There are two groups of channels:

  • Group 1:
    • TRPC (canonical)
    • TRPV (vanilloid)
    • TRPM (melastatin)
    • TRPN (no mechanoreceptor potential C)
    • TRPA (ankyrin)
  • Group 2:
    • TRPP (polycystin)
    • TRPML (mucolipin)

TRP channels are located throughout the body in both excitable and non-excitable cells. They are activated by numerous stimuli including temperature, pressure, volume, vibration, stretching, mustard, wasabi, cinnamon, garlic, chilli pepper, menthol, camphor, peppermint, and THC.

Mutations in these channels can lead to numerous disorders including neurodegeneration, cancer, skeletal dysplasia, and kidney disorders.

Ion Channel research requires a great diversity of life science products. We are dedicated to developing cutting edge research products to aid in the study of TRP channels, including monoclonal antibodies, polyclonal antibodies, antibody conjugates, and TRP channel blockers.
