Neurogenesis
What is Neurogenesis?
Neurogenesis is the process by which new nerve cells, also called neurons, are produced in the brain by neural stem cells (NSCs). NSCs are able to generate neural progenitor cells that can differentiate into specific types of neurons (neurogenesis) or glial cells (gliogenesis). Neurons cannot divide after their birth as they are very specialized in their function.
What is Adult Neurogenesis?
Neurogenesis in many mammals is more active when an embryo is developing but also continues after birth and throughout adult life. In adult neurogenesis, new neurons are born in the hippocampus of adult mammals but neurogenesis in adult humans remains a controversial area of research among neuroscientists. Future studies are needed to confirm the presence of neurogenesis in adult humans.
Neurogenesis research requires a great diversity of life science products. We are dedicated to developing cutting edge research products to aid in the study of neurogenesis, including monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies.
