Heat Shock Protein 70/HSP70 Inhibitor
CAS Number: 64984-31-2
Molecular Formula: C8H7NO2S
Molecular Weight: 181.21 g/mol
Research Areas: Cancer Research, Heat Shock, Apoptosis, Cell Signalling
Alternative Names: Pifithrin-mu, PES, 2-phenylethyne-1-sulfonamide, 2-phenylethynesulfonamide, PFTμ
Biological Description
Pifithrin-μ has been found to interact with the Heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) substrate binding domain. Pifithrin-μ has anti-cancer activities by disrupting protein-protein interactions between Hsp70 and p53. It triggers both apoptosis and autophagy. Currently, a chlorated version of Pifithrin-μ, PES-Cl, has more potent anti-cancer activities. The selectivity for Hsp70 is uncertain.
